History and sights to see
The existing church replaced the old wooden church
The church at Mollösund was dedicated on 26 June 1866. It replaced the older wooden church, which was situated inside the old churchyard, down by the harbour.
The famous streets of Mollösund
“If I were a musician I would compose a Mollösund street symphony, when the wind whistles through these wonderful streets, that I love. You are a great musical epic.” Ivar Lo Johansson
Mollösund has had several windmills. The land holding distribution map of 1773 shows drawings of two smock windmills in Mollösund.
The Fisherman’s Wife stands on the Klockeberget lookout point and stares out to sea. This wooden sculpture was erected in memory of all the fishermen’s wives and children who stood and kept watch for homecoming fishing boats.
On beautiful summer days when peace and quiet reign in Mollösund it’s hard to imagine the time when people lost their lives in the cruellest way when neighbours and acquaintances accused them of practising magic.
Herring catches and train oil factories of the 18th century
Between 1747 and 1809 herring were prolific in the Bohuslän province, which made such a drastic difference to daily life that it is hard to imagine today. Suddenly it was easy to haul in enormous catches, and salting and train oil factories appeared like mushrooms from the earth, and there were shortages of labour.
