In an attempt to recreate something of the old seafaring tradition in Mollösund, the schooner Mathilda was introduced in the autumn of 2001. Her original name was Nostalgia of Sweden and she was designed by naval architect Axel H Gustafsson of Landskrona She was built in 1985. Nostalgia was intended to ply charter traffic in the West Indies and was ordered by an American.

Today however Mathilda is a school training and charter schooner based at Mollösund instead of transporting sunburned charterers around the West Indies.

Mathilda permits new generations to learn and practise nautical life and ship handling. An important part of the task is to maintain the vessel. Anyone who wishes is given the chance to learn this from the ground up.

The ship is chartered out with her crew to private people, associations and companies.

The owner is the “Mathilda af Mollösund Financial Association”. The Association was founded on September 15, 2001.
